Small Gifts for the Hiker in your Life

Updated: May 8, 2025

Christmas? Birthday? Anniversary? "I'm sorry"? Wednesday?

If you're looking for small and affordable gifts for the hiker and backpacker in your life, I got you!

Let's get right to it; Here is a list of all my ideas:

  • Water Filtration System

Carrying gallons of water? No way!

A water filtration system is a must-have for any hiker or camper. It ensures that you have access to clean and safe drinking water, no matter where your adventures take you. No more rolling the dice with questionable water sources!

  • Shoulder Strap Pocket

A shoulder strap pocket is a convenient accessory that attaches to your backpack strap, keeping essentials like your phone, snacks, and chapstick within easy reach.

No more fishing around in your backpack for your essentials. With this pocket, you’ll be the epitome of efficiency and organization—a true hiking superhero!

  • Do they like coffee? Instant Coffee!

Perfect for those chilly mornings when you need a warm hug in a mug. Instant coffee is a quick and easy way to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while camping or hiking. Just add hot water, and you're good to go! Treat your favorite hiker with some really good instant coffee from passionate coffee roasters.

I think Flash Fuel from the Canadian Heritage Roasting Co is a great option and it's my favorite.

  • A Camera Clip for the outdoorsy photographer

Honestly, the most secure, convenient, accessible way to carry your camera! I have used and loved mine for over 5 years and I use it for both my small and big cameras. Obsessed!

  • A SD Card Reader for their phone

Ok so now that they've taken beautiful pictures all day on their camera, they have to wait until they get home to view the pictures on their phone and send them to their friends, or edit them?! No more!

I've been carrying this little SD card reader with me on trails for years and it's the best. I can upload the photos to my phone and edit them right from my tent everyday to send them to my mom, or post them on social media.

It's also great to upload them on my computer when I'm traveling since it doesn't have an sd card reader!

  • A Subscription to Gaia GPS

I've talked about Gaia GPS a lot over the years, it is my favorite app! The free version is great but the extras you can get with a Premium subscription as that much more fun and useful, especially the weather, wildfire, and avalanche forecasts layers.

You can currently 10% off subscription costs for new subscribers when they sign up for Gaia GPS Premium or Outside +.

Get access to 300+ map catalog. Get detailed trail guides curated by experts at National Geographic. Camp in peace thanks to public and private land boundaries. Discover the classics like USGS and USFS topos.

  • How many half empty cans of propanes can one have? The answer is: None with a Flip Fuel Device

The pitch: "Consolidate your backpacking fuel with the FlipFuel® Fuel Transfer Device. This ultra-lightweight durable gadget allows you to transfer isobutane fuel between canisters and top-off your fuel before a trip. The precision-engineered aluminum alloy with brass fittings and a trail weight of just 1.4 ounces (39.7 grams) make it a backpacker's essential. Get peace of mind with our replacement guarantee and end fuel anxiety on the trail."

  • The Best Socks

Socks are like the Clark Kent of hiking gear—simple and unassuming, but secretly essential for saving the day (and your feet)

A good pair of hiking socks can make all the difference on the trail.

  • Ultralight Camping Pillow

Say goodbye to that awkward rolled-up sweatshirt as a makeshift pillow. This camping pillow whispers sweet dreams and keeps your head in cloud-like comfort

  • A Buff

This magical piece of fabric can transform into anything you need. It's like the Swiss Army knife of outdoor fashion!

A buff is a versatile piece of fabric that can be worn in various ways, such as a headband, neck gaiter, face mask, or even a bandana. It’s the ultimate multi-purpose accessory for hikers and campers.
