Updated: Jul 26, 2024

Tucked away in the rugged beauty of northern Scotland lies the John O' Groats Trail, an off-the-beaten-path adventure that promises breathtaking landscapes and rich history.

This long-distance walking route stretches from Inverness to John O' Groats, covering approximately 147 miles of coastal beauty. Whether you're an avid hiker or a casual walker, the John O' Groats Trail offers an unforgettable experience.

The trail begins in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, and winds its way northward along the coast. The journey takes you through quaint villages, past historic castles, and along some of Scotland's most stunning coastal scenery.

How to Get to and From the Trail

The JOG trail starts in Inverness, a very easily accessible city in Scotland whether you want to fly in, take the train, or the bus.

From John O' Groats you can take 2 busses back to Inverness. Use local services from John O' Groats to Wick or Thurso. Daily bus services run from Inverness bus station to Wick and Thurso.

Where to Stay in Inverness

  • Camping: You can pitch a tent at the Bught Caravan Park. And it is very close to downtown Inverness.

  • Hotel: (Keep in mind that I camped so I haven't been to the hotels but they have good reviews)
